Ongoing challenges in 2025
We at the Center pay close attention to the status of people experiencing homelessness. Sadly, as reported by The New York Times on 12/27/2024, homelessness soared in 2024:
“Homelessness soared to the highest level on record this year, driven by forces that included high rents, stagnant wages, and a surge in migrants seeking asylum, the federal government reported on Friday.
The number of people experiencing homelessness topped 770,000, an increase of 18 percent over last year and the largest annual jump since the count began in 2007.
The report, released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, showed that homelessness rose by a third in the past two years after declining modestly over the previous decade.
Nearly every category of unhoused people grew, with the rise especially steep among children (33 percent) and people in families (39 percent). The number of people in shelters rose by about a quarter, while unsheltered homeless rose by 7 percent. The rise in homelessness among older adults continued as well, with a 6 percent growth in those 65 or older.”
Since opening in 2003, the Center has cared for over 1,800 sick and injured homeless people. We are the only organization in Southwest Ohio to care for adults experiencing homelessness who are ill — without a place to recover. We continue to affirm our mission to provide quality, holistic medical care to people experiencing homelessness who need a safe place to heal, while assisting them in breaking the cycle of homelessness.
The establishment of a world class 24-hour/ 20 bed facility and expanding services since the move in 2017 to our location on the third floor of the Saint Anthony Center assures that the Center’s clients receive quality medical care and case management services. As we enter into the year ahead, the Center is thrilled to introduce Transformations, an aftercare program designed to assist our clients in reintegrating into the broader community following their transition to a stable secondary placement. We remain committed to supporting our clients as they adjust to their new lives and routines!
You make the mission possible! Please consider a gift to the Center’s recently launched Annual Appeal. We are so grateful for your ongoing support. All the very best to you and yours in the New Year!
